The Monastery of Sanahin is on a mountain slope above the Sanahin village, near Alaverdi, in the beautiful area of northern part of Armenia. The monastery was constructed over the ruins of a 4th or 5th century church and is now designated as of the World Heritage Sites. The name "Sanahin" means "this is older that the other," reference to Haghpat which is just a few kilometers away.
